NEW MEMBERS!!

We are so glad that you decided to join the world’s largest amateur women’s golf association!  You have opened the door to many, many golfing opportunities and to a new group of women who you soon will be calling friends.  The purpose of this section of our web site is help you become familiar with some of common practices and to become more comfortable with our Chapter.  Please submit questions and we will publish answers here on subjects of general interest.  Check back often as we’ll be adding items frequently.

One of the biggest challenges people face in a new situation is getting to know peoples’ names and attaching names with faces.  Here’s a couple of hints:

  • If you know in advance who is in your foursome or if you know the names of participants in an event, check their Profiles on our web site. We are encouraging members to upload their photos to make it easier to get to know one another.
  • Existing members usually have LPGA Amateurs name tags on their golf bags. You can learn a player’s name by casually checking their bag tag.  If you are like me, you might have to check it several times during the round.  But that’s okay!

You will hear members talk about “ready golf”.  We practice that in our chapter and try hard to maintain a brisk pace of play.  That doesn’t mean that we don’t understand that newer golfers might require more time.  We were all beginners once.  There are also some guidelines here for “The Fun of Golf” that new golfers might want to follow.  Just remember that you can only post your scores to maintain a handicap when you are playing by the formal rules of golf.

If you have any questions about LPGA – Amateur Golf Association or about our chapter, please contact Kathy Strong at currentmembers.lpgaamateursroc.com.

HAVE A QUESTION?

If you're a new member, you might have a lot of questions. Contact us and we can send you some information on the following areas of interest:

  • WHAT DO I DO? WHERE DO I GO? WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? - If you're asking yourself these 'on the course' questions, then we can help with some basic golf etiquette information

  • HOW DO I KEEP UP? - In order to provide a fun round of golf for all, at a good pace - Play Ready Golf

  • LETS HAVE FUN!! - Golf can be stressful, especially for new golfers - we can send you information to learn some ways to make it more fun while learning... It's OK to play for Fun!

Our charities for the 2019 Golf Season

This year, our chapter has designated three charities to support for the 2019 season: EquiCenter, BE uninTimidated and Coldwater Women's & Children's Residential Home. Our chapter will have numerous opportunities during the season to support these worthwhile charities. Please be sure to visit their websites to learn more about them and how they impact so many members of our community and beyond.

EquiCenter
EquiCenter’s mission is to foster the personal growth and individual achievement of people with disabilities, at-risk youth, Veterans, and their families using a wide range of therapeutic equestrian and related programs.

EquiCenter participants perceive therapeutic horseback riding as a more positive experience than traditional therapy, serving as a strong motivator in achieving their therapeutic goals. EquiCenter's nationally recognized programs also address mental/ emotional, neurological and cognitive challenges such as autism, attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), various mental health issues, and challenging life circumstance. EquiCenter's program, Heroes and Horses, provides therapeutic equestrian activities to wounded veterans in need and their families.

BE uninTIMidated
Our mission is to encourage, support and advocate for those living with and affected by rare forms of cancer, such as peritoneal carcinomatosis (PMCA) and to raise public awareness and funding to aid in the research and treatment of these diseases.

It is our goal to deliver financial support to patients and their families as they seek critical medical opinions and treatment for PMCA and other rare forms of cancer.

Coldwater Women's & Children's Residential Home
2000 - The number of homeless children in our Rochester City School District. Open Door Mission believes this is 2,000 too many and we have strengthened our commitment to improving the lives of Rochester's impoverished by pouring time and financial resources into a new home dedicated to serving women and children.

Women & Children’s Residential Recovery Program
The Women & Children’s Residential Recovery Program is a grace-based Christian life skills rehabilitation and development program designed to address the root causes of generational poverty through strengthening families.

Women & Children’s Clothing Room
The Women & Children’s Clothing Room is a free clothing distribution and resource center that welcomes women and children in crisis or hardship to receive hope and encouragement.

Women & Children’s Community Outreach Program
The Community Outreach Program provides support through groups, classes, case management for residents, as well as neighbors in the community, who lack the structure and stability to succeed in the areas of education, employment, spirituality, and family.

Improve Your Game!

Clinics and Player Education & Development Opportunities

There are a number of clinics and seminars scheduled throughout the early season. Clinics usually last one hour, limited to 10-12 participants unless noted, and are appropriate for golfers of all ability levels. The content covered is narrow and the purpose is to offer an inexpensive way for members to get a basic overview and/or review on how to play a certain shot.  A clinic is designed to accommodate more participants and less individual instruction than a group lesson.  The seminars will cover Rules and Etiquette and our GN21 Handicap System.

Unless otherwise noted, prices for clinics are $10 for LPGA Amateurs-Rochester members and $15 for non-members. Non-members may only attend three LPGA Amateurs-Rochester events.

Depending upon the time of the clinic, you may want to stay at the course to play a round or stop in the restaurant for lunch, dinner or socialization.
