To help maintain a good pace of play, and because many LPGA Amateurs Palm Springs / Desert Cities Chapter events are designed for fun and enjoyment, the Board has approved the use of the USGA’s Net Double Bogey rule for Chapter events that are designated as net competitions.
Note: This rule does not apply to gross competitions.
During a net competition, a player may pick up her ball on a hole once she has reached or exceeded net double bogey. The player may then record the appropriate score on her scorecard and remain eligible for prizes. Players should inform others in their group when they are taking net double bogey on a hole.
This rule applies to all players participating in Chapter fun, non-official net events. Other chapters or events may not allow the use of net double bogey. When playing outside of Chapter events, members should always follow the rules established by the event organizer.
As defined by the USGA, Net Double Bogey is calculated as:
Double bogey, plus or minus any handicap strokes received on the hole.
Examples:
Par 5: If a player receives 2 handicap strokes (“pops”) on a par 5, net double bogey would be 9
(5 for par + 2 for double bogey + 2 pops = 9). Once 9 strokes are reached, the player may pick up, record a 9, and continue play.
Par 4: If a player receives 1 handicap stroke on a par 4, net double bogey would be 7
(4 for par + 2 for double bogey + 1 pop = 7). Once 7 strokes are reached, the player may pick up, record a 7, and continue play.
During a gross competition, a player may choose to pick up and record net double bogey on her scorecard; however, doing so removes her from that day’s gross competition. The player should clearly notify the other members of her group and mark the scorecard accordingly.
If you have questions regarding scoring or rules, please ask the Event Captain before play begins.
