Pace of Play

Jul 16, 2025, 12:19 PM

We are thrilled to see so many of our members, new and experienced, enjoying our Events and Leagues. It’s important for all of us to be mindful of Pace of Play as the GTA courses are in such demand.

In general, you should always be able to see the group ahead of you – if the hole is open, you are out of position.

Some tips to help maintain Pace:

  • Except if playing Match Play, play “ready golf” if it is safe to do so. For example, hit your shot if your partner is assessing their options, or raking a bunker.
  • Hit your shot before helping a partner search for a lost ball.
  • Consider letting the shorter hitters hit first off the tee if the longer hitters have to wait.
  • Leave your cart or golf bag in a safe location to allow for quick and efficient movement forward (don’t walk back!).
  • If you are struggling and have reached your maximum allowable strokes, pick up your ball and move on – there’s always another hole waiting somewhere.
  • If your foursome cannot maintain its position, consider letting the group behind play through.
  • Mark your scorecard when you reach the next tee, not by the green.

We have each been a golf-newbie at some point. We encourage our more experienced members to help mentor those who are new to the game. For further education on Pace of Play, visit the R&A Rules of Golf here.
