The annual Turkey Bowl Shamble was held at Miami Shores Country Club on 11/19/22. Team of Kaitlin Cozzo, Vince Powierski, and Betsy and Ray Powers took 1st place low net with a 58. Elise Dillard won the 50/50 ($100) and the rest of the funds along with donations went to Feeding South Florida.

Head Starter at Miami Lakes Honored

Joseph Daniel (known as JD), the head starter at our home course, Miami Lakes GC, was the winner of the Recreation/Spa Employee of the Year Award in 2022. Wendy Kallergis, President & Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Miami & The Beaches Hotel Association presented Joseph Daniel with the award. If you see JD, give him a hearty congratulations. He always greets our members on the 1st tee with a smile and is the best!

Holiday Event 2-12-21

The Miami LPGA Amateurs Holiday Event was held December 12, 2021. The four person team game was a scramble "with a twist" and the net score used on each hole was determined after the hole was played by random questions. A luncheon followed at Shula's II restaurant where 2021 league prizes, raffles and birdie pins were awarded (persons scoring a birdie in Chapter play during the year.
First place winners were the team of Tenille Emilani, Rhonda Smith, Miki Boyer and Sally Whitton. Second place winners were team of Jackie Cox, Jennifer West, Barbara Johnson and Teri Krugman. Third place went to team of Satoko Umeda, Trish Carney, Karen Schmid and Ann DeStefanis.
Raffle winners were: Lynn Carlson, Satoko Umeda, Pat Vanderklaau, Carol Fine, Miki Boyer, Maggie Tawil, Karen Schmid, Michele Laine, Maria Hershman, Lale Divringi, Trish Carney, Teri Krugman, and Jennifer West. The 50/50 winner was Jennifer West. Many thanks to our sponsors for providing wonderful prizes.
Thanks to our members, many toys were collected to be distributed to children for the holidays by the non-profit organization, Awareness into Action.

Turkey Bowl Event 2021

4 participants enjoyed a four person scramble team event at beautiful Crandon GC in Key Biscayne on November 13, followed by dinner at Whisky Joe's restaurant. 1st place went to the Southwest team of Kerstin Koenig, Jennie Taylor, Kristin Jowett and Joan Kelley. Second place went to Cheryl Porter, Maggie Tawil, Jackie Cox and Jan Smith. The third place winners were team Chantel Keable-Keene, Marie Staebell, Deb Ladig and Lynn Carlson. Raffle prize winners took home some great prizes, and the 50/50 winner was lucky Jackie Cox!
Many thanks to our generous members who donated (over $300) to Feeding South Florida.

Valentine Golf Event 2-13-21

It was a beautiful day to dress in pink and celebrate Valentine's Day with a team event.
The format was 9 & 9 Best Ball. First 9 holes - one best net ball from team and second 9 holes - two best net balls from team.
1st Place: Team with Teri Krugman, Mirfee Ungier, Jan Smith and Jackie Cox - net 89.
2nd Place with playoff of lowest net score on most difficult holes: Satoko Umeda, Pat Vanderklaauw, Ann DeStefanis and Trish Carney with net 89.

Our annual Holiday Event was held on December 19th at the Miami Shores Country Club. It was a beautiful day for golf. Two person teams played best ball and the winners were:
1st - Maggie Tawil and Jackie Cox with net 62
2nd - Carey Allen and Cheryl Porter with net 63
3rd - Pat Vanderklaauw and Lale Divringi with net 66
Closet to pin on #9 - Dawn Baird.
Following, we had lunch and many prizes/raffle gifts were awarded. A special raffle was held with tickets given for food donations and/or toys. Lale Divringi won a stocking filled with $100 worth of lottery tickets. The toys were taken by Rosa, Stephen and Deanne of the Awareness into Action for their Community Holiday party to benefit children in need. The food/cash donations were taken to the Burton Memorial United Methodist Church in Tavernier, Fl. All donations were greatly appreciated! The 50/50 cash drawing was won by Lynn Carlson. And the prize for the best holiday socks was awarded to Sally Whitton. We were happy to welcome our newest member, also - Helen Hui-Chou

Clewiston Sugar Bowl

The SWFL Chapter invited Miami, Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale Chapters to the Clewiston Sugar Bowl match play. 76 participants were divided into two teams - Stevia (SWFL) v Agave (Visiting Chapters). Agave won again this year!

South Central Florida Sectional Championship Qualifier ResultsCongratulations to the following Miami member winners in the SCFL Championship Qualifier held 6-15-19 at Hammock Bay Golf & Country Club, Naples, Fl:KJ Tjon with a 1LG win in the Championship Flight (and OVERALL CHAMPION) and Scramble team of Jackie Cox (Capt.), Cheryl Porter, Jan Smith and Carey Allen with a 2nd place win and will advance to the Championship Finals Oct. 11 & 12 at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort in Ranch Mirage, CA.Also taking home trophies were Jennifer West - 2LN in the Second Flight, Satoko Umeda - 3LG in the Third Flight, Carolyn Caplan - 2LG in the Fourth Flight and Jeri Dausey - 3LN in the Fourth Flight.

USGA posts video of LPGA Amateurs Miami member Satoko Umeda honoring her father for introducing her to golf!Last year the USGA emailed their members, asking them to submit stories of the person who introduced them to golf. LPGA Amateurs Miami member Satoko Umeda submitted an essay and photo. The USGA contacted her and produced the following touching video which is posted on their web site. Please enjoy this beautiful tribute to her father.
