Chapter News & Announcements
  • Over 30 Members Attended LPGA Teacher-led Clinic on April 20

Full Swing?  covered by LPGA pro and chapter member Laurie Rinker.  Chipping? Covered by LPGA pro Debbie O'Connell. Putting? You bet we had it covered by Master Instructor Marie Claire DeBortoli.

After the on-course instruction and wonderful appetizers, Debbie O'Connell discussed how to stay positive and leverage that during your round.  Huge SHOUT OUT to Joanne Torcivia for spearheading the planning efforts to Susan Murphy and Deb Miron for helping to pull this clinic together!

  • Qualify Now to Help Us Defend The Cup

We won last year's inaugural event, hosted by the Palm Beach Chapter at Madison Green.  As a result of our victory, we are hosting this year -- which means home field advantage at Jensen Beach Golf Club!  If you've played there, you know how much fun, and how much of a challenge it can be.  This year's event will be on Saturday, July 20.  The format is 2-person four ball match play.  We are in need of six additional players to help Captains Susan Murphy and Joanne Torcivia Keep the Cup.

In order to make this as fair as possible, we are going to have a "qualifier" to fill the remaining spots.  If you are interested in playing, here are the rules:

    • Between now and May 31, you must play an 18 hole round at Jensen Beach Golf Club, from the red tees.
    • This round must be played with a witness from the Chapter.
    • Your score must be posted in GHIN and submitted to joannetorcivia@gmail.com by June 1 at noon.
    • The top six net scores will qualify for the team.
    • We will also create a slate of substitutes from the field.

We'd love to have everyone play Jensen Beach on June 22nd as the the Tee it Up Cup Team will be practicing match play that day.  Everyone else can choose to either compete in their own round of match play or play a casual round of golf.

    Additional details are as follows:

Team Composition:  Teams consists of eight (8) members who have a verifiable USGA Handicap Index.  The maximum allowable Handicap is 40.0; competitors with a handicap higher than 40.0 will play with a Course Handicap equal to that of a player with a 40.0 handicap.

Format:  Four-Ball Match Play.  Match Play is a format of play that is scored in a hole-by-hole competition; within each foursome, the team with the lowest net score on a hole wins that hole.

    Location:  Jensen Beach Golf Club

    • Friday, July 19: Practice Rounds starting 11am through 1pm ($35 at the pro shop).
    • Saturday, July 20 ($85 pre-paid upon qualifying for the Team):
      • 8:00 am check-in
      • Light continental breakfast
      • Free Range Balls
      • 9:00am Shotgun Start
      • 1:30pm Shrimp and Chicken Taco Buffet and Prizes

  • Sooo Close at the Shamrock Scramble

Four foursomes went toe to toe at this year's Shamrock Scramble last Saturday.  While none of teams made it all 18 holes with the Shamrock ball still in their possession <gasp!>, there were TWO TEAMS that lost their ball on the 11th hole. In a nail-biting, net score play off, the Team of Jeanine Berman, Karen Dick, Janet Writer, and Pat Potocny emerged victorious.

  • Treasure Coast Sandies Compete on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook
Our Treasure Coast Sandies, led by Captain Lisa Rabant, played their hearts out at the Southern Regional Cup Qualifier on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor.  While we didn’t make it to the finals in Alabama, the team fought hard and had some close matches and some wins and ties.  More important were the team spirit, goodwill for our Chapter and the new friends we made from all over Florida and beyond.  Thanks to all of these warriors, and special thanks to Maria Beckett and Deb Bruno from the Palm Beach Chapter for joining our team and for their amazing contributions to the fight!

    Denise Ryan & Lisa Rabant
