From the Desk of Jackie Poole
As most of you know, the current USGA Handicap System will convert to the World Handicap System in January, 2020. Last week Jeanne Biggerstaff with LPGA Amateurs headquarters staff held a conference call for board members explaining some of the features of the system. You should see communications soon with a link to listen to a recording of the call, but in the meantime, Mimi Lenio was kind enough to share her notes on highlights from the call.
Please continue to watch this space (and other LPGA Amateur communications) for more information on the World Handicap System. For those who are participating in the Holiday scramble on Friday, Dec 13th, I will be leading a presentation on the new system during lunch with opportunities to have your questions answered. As always, please feel free to email me with any questions you may have.
Jackie PooleWhat’s Not Changing
- GolfNet will continue to be a benefit as part of our dues thru 2020
- Handicap Chair needs to take an online quiz to retain license to be able to issue and manage a Hcp
World Handicap System
- score posting will be suspended on 12-31 thru 1-6-20. On 1-6-20 it will go live as the new WHS. Hold on to any scorecards during that time to be posted later
- handicaps will change somewhat with the new calculations and our handicaps on 1-6 will be the starting point going forward.
- handicaps update every single day, so posting daily is important.
- the WHS will now use 8 scores instead of 10. All participating systems around the world (i.e., GHIN, GolfNet, etc.) calculations will be done thru a centralized computation service and stored in a centralized database.
- the GHIN app will update on 1-6-20 and if you are logging at a kiosk, the interface will be new
- GolfNet.com does not yet have a timeline. Members will have a separate log in for computer posting. Our single sign on ability will go away for now and will be addressed later in 2020.
- GolfNet has always had the option to post hole by hole and now the GHIN will too. It is highly recommended that you post hole by hole because our ESC is calculated differently. Logging hole by hole will allow the system to calculate your max score automatically.
- our max score will now be calculated as Par + 2 + any strokes you would normally get on a hole.
Go out to USGA.org. At top of screen click on Playing. At the bottom click on World Handicap System. There is an abundance of info out there.
HQ is planning to send out a communication to all members explaining all of this.
