  • Chapter Championship Results

    Chapter Championship Results

Congratulations to all Chapter Championship participants and thanks for participating! We were thrilled to have 31 participants, our largest turnout ever.

The weather threatened to cut our event short as we were called off the course after a few holes, but we hung in there and went back out as soon as allowed to finish what we started. We hoped that we would all get at least 9 holes in before the next storm came so we could call it an official Championship, but the weather held and we finished all 18.

Celebrations in the clubhouse afterward were much enjoyed with a complimentary beverage and feeling like we were returning to life as it should be. Wonderful to see the smiles and hear everyone's laughter as we enjoyed each other's company. That's what LPGA Amateurs and our chapter is all about.

    Congratulations to our winners:

    Scramble Division:
1st Low Net - Megan Bawn, Ailene MacDougall, Anne Stubbings, Michele Walma
1st Low Gross - Kendall Balchen, Cheryl Brunet, Mary Robinson, Andrea Wilson

    Stroke Play:
The following Low Gross and Low Net winners will be invited to advance to the Ontario Championship on September 12 at Richmond Hill Golf Club.

    Championship - 1st Low Gross - Donna Butterworth-Popert

    1st Flight - 1st Low Gross - Jacqui Mutch
1st Low Net - Maria Broderick

    2nd Flight - 1st Low Gross - Carol Buchinski

    3rd Flight - 1st Low Gross - Teresa White

2nd Low Gross - Monique Rodrigue
2nd Low Net - Linda Bullock

    4th Flight - 1st Low Gross - Carolyn Johnstone

    Team Match Play Explained

Maybe you were thinking about entering the Ontario Team Match Play Open, but “match play” sounds very new and a little exotic? Four-Ball, and singles, how does the handicapping work, and what’s with that scoring terminology?? Don’t worry, we have a short presentation to introduce you to all that, and answer any questions that you have, so that you can confidently register for the Match Play competition. Follow this link to attend the virtual presentation on July 12 at 8 PM.

So far we have 17 York-Simcoe members registered for the Ontario Team Match Play at Cardinal Golf Club on August 14-15. We'd love to see more! You can make up your own team of 4, or register as a single and ask to be assigned to a team. Please note the early bird rate expires on July 6. See more details HERE.

    Ontario Match Play

Your Events Committee is pleased to announce that the All-Ontario Match Play event will be held on Aug 14 & 15 at Cardinal Golf Club, East and West. This 4-person team event will earn points playing four-ball matches on day one and singles matches on day two. Will your team earn the most points to be declared the winners? Get your team together now, as registration opens June 7th!

Additionally, this event is eligible for Canada Cup points, so come participate to earn points for your chapter!

    What is Match Play format?

This match play event will be for teams of four players. The first day will be “Four-Ball” matches where each team is split into two pairs, and each pair will compete against a pair from a different team. Each player plays her own ball for the entire round counting the strokes taken on each hole .Each hole is won for her team by the player with the lowest net score (i.e. after adjusting for her course handicap) on that hole; the hole is “halved” if it is a tie. The team that wins the most holes wins the match.

The second day will be “Single” match where each player competes against one player from another team. A hole is won by the player who has the lowest net score on that hole. The match is won by the player who wins the most holes.

The team with the most points from the two matches on day one and the four matches on day two will win the competition!

Match play can be great for players who tend to have a blow-up hole or two in their round, since each hole is a mini-match and the blow-up score doesn’t carry forward. It is a really fun format! For more information on the differences between match play and stroke play, this Golf Monthly article can be a useful reference.

If you have any questions about this event or upcoming All-Ontario events please reach out to Michele Walma.

  • Another Great League Season winds up!

Welcome to our new Board Members

Our Annual General Meetingwas held virtually on October 6, and our York-Simcoe board was elected. Welcome to Cathy Ollerhead, who volunteered to serve as President, and Katrin Cooper, who volunteered to service as League Chair.

    York-Simcoe Board  2020-2021:

    President                 Cathy Ollerhead
    Treasurer                Jennifer Lynn
    Membership            Kelly Gard
    League                    Katrin Cooper
    Rules & Handicap   Barb Thompson
    Communications     Carol Buchinski

If you have any ideas as to what you would like to see in 2021, please forward them to any of our board members. We will be planning over the winter for a great season next year!

Huge thank you to outgoing President Anne Jessop and League Chair Megan Bawn for all of their efforts to make our season so enjoyable, despite the restrictions we faced due to Covid 19. Our weekly attendance was strong and we had several new members join us this year.

    Masters Pool

It's not April, but The Masters is just around the corner, being played November 12-15th. There won't be rhododendrons and azaleas on the course, but we can still pick our fantasy golf teams and place our bets... and win money if your team plays well! It willbe pretty similar to last year's British Open Pool, but we will do the team drafts through a virtual meeting. Look for more details to come out in early November.

    Handicaps

If you currently have a Golf Canada (aka Golf Ontario) membership where you maintain your handicap, and you are due to renew it before May of 2021, please drop a note to Karen Caume at memberservices@lpgaamateurscanada.ca. We may have a way to save you a bit of money.

Post your Handicaps in Ontario until October 31

Every geographical area has an active season for handicaps depending on their climate. For Ontario, our active season is April 15 - October 31. This means all games played in Ontario between those dates should be posted and will count toward your Handicap Index.

If you may have missed posting a few rounds, this is a good time to catch up. You can use previous scorecards, or if you didn't keep them, use the 9 hole scores that were posted for our league games at www.golfscoring.net/cardinal/womens9/2020
