  • Competitive Golf Events Overview

One of the many benefits of LPGA Amateurs membership is the opportunity to participate in competitive golf events for all levels of play. A number of golf events are offered on the local, regional, district, and national levels with all of these competitions using the golfers’ handicaps to enable everyone to join in the fun on equal footing. The three events include the following:

    Individual Stroke PlayTeam Scramble
    Team Match Play

Players assume their own costs for golf and travel expenses to participate in any of these events. Many participants play a practice round on the course the day before the actual event to get familiar with the surroundings. An official handicap must also be available which can easily be established using the LPGA Amateurs handicap tool.
    Stroke Play and Team Scramble
The LPGA Amateurs Central PA Chapter play-off is scheduled for Saturday, June 15 at Royal Manchester Golf Links, Mt. Wolf, PA. This event includes individual stroke play with five flights by handicap and scramble teams with balanced handicaps among the four players. Winners of these events move on to the Chesapeake District Semi-finals competition on Saturday, August 10 at the Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Rising Sun, MD. With first and second place in five individual stroke flights and first and second in scramble competition, there could be up to18 golfers from our chapter moving on to regional play! The registration deadline for this event will be in early June.
Winners at the regional level from across the country in stroke play and team scramble will compete at the LPGA Amateurs Championship Finals on October 13-14 at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, FL. Our chapter was proud to have a recent national champion with Chris Maffey winning her stroke play flight in 2015.

    Team Match Play

Chapter members who have participated in these events enjoyed meeting new golfers from other areas, playing beautiful courses, enhancing knowledge of the game, and sharing the camaraderie of other woman golfers. If you have questions about these various competitions or how you can participate, please check our website www.centralpaewga.com or contact one of your officers for more information. The national LPGA Amateurs website at www.lpgaamateurs.com also offers details about the regional, district, and national events.
