  • Cabin Fever Kick-Off and Youth Golf Raffle Results

As we have for over 20 years, Cabin Fever, our golf season kick-off event, was held at Golf Mart in South San Francisco.  To allow us to meet, mingle and shop in private, the store opened an hour before the public was allowed in.

Attendees were treated to sweet treats, coffee, “goodie bags”, discounted shopping, prizes and a chance to win two of the five Get Golf Ready prize baskets which were assembled as part of the Raffle to benefit youth golf.  To encourage mingling and meeting others, an ice-breaker game was held with prizes going to the winners.

The remaining three Get Golf Ready baskets were raffled off on March 9.  As a result of the raffle, $600 will be divided and donated to two youth golf organizations:  Youth on Course and First Tee (San Francisco).

Thank you to all who made this possible through the purchase of raffle tickets; and a big thank you to The Golf Mart and the PGA Superstore for their generous contributions and donations of prizes.

  • Stacey Baba, NCGA Tournament Official of the Year!

One of our very own, Stacey Baba, has been recognized and honored as Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) Tournament Official of the Year!

She started her golf journey in 1998; shortly thereafter, she joined the Executive Women’s Golf Association only to establish a handicap index.  For the first 5 years with EWGA she never played with them until she was urged to play for the Chapter Championship. She won the qualifier, the sectional and finally, the National Championship in 2003, only 5 years after learning to golf!

Stacey continued her association with EWGA and was involved in the transition to LPGA Amateurs.

In 2014, Stacey joined the Board of the Northern California Golf Association.  As part of joining the board, she decided to work towards achieving certification as a tournament official.  This required her to learn the rules of golf.  She became “rules certified” in 2017 and is required to pass a re-certification exam every 3 years.  Stacey has chosen to take the exam every year to stay ahead of the curve.  Most recently she achieved “Expert Status” on the Rules of Golf from the USGA.

As a tournament official for NCGA, Stacey officiates at 20+ tournaments a year throughout California.  She also officiates at the LPGA Amateur tournaments, both Championships and qualifiers.  This year, Stacey is also serving as the chair of the California Womens Amateur Championship for Junior Girls.  This event will be held in June.

    Biography:

Stacey was born and raised in Oakland; she received her Bachelor’s degree in biology at UC Berkeley and later earned a Masters in Materials Engineering at San Jose State University.  She worked as an engineer at Raychem and Acuson until retiring in 2006.

Stacey has served as an officer or Board member with EWGA  and LPGAA SF. She continued to bring her extensive experiences to our Chapter members as our Handicap and Rules Chair.  She conducts Rules Clinics in conjunction with our golf events.  This year, the clinic will be held prior to the Poppy Ridge outing on March 30.  Sign up and watch Stacey in action as she uses her knowledge and, with the help of props, helps untangle the mysteries of the Rules of Golf.

When asked how she sees the Chapter’s role in promoting women’s golf, Stacey said, “…offers the opportunity for women to play social and competitive golf on a national level.  And if you travel, you can make contact and play with members of other Chapters.”

Congratulations, Stacey, on your prestigious achievement and your hard work promoting women’s golf!
