Members who wish to track their official golf handicap may establish a Handicap Index through the Maryland State Golf Association (MSGA), which administers the USGA Handicap System for golfers throughout the state.

Having a handicap allows members to:

• Track their progress and improvement
• Participate in certain competitive events
  
• Play in a fair format with golfers of different skill levels

While a handicap is helpful for tournament play, it is not required to participate in most chapter events, and golfers of all experience levels are welcome to join and play.
