2020 League Play

NOTE:  Please have patience as we navigate the difficulties of the current pandemic, as each course has its own interpretation of the COVID-19 guidelines.  If a particular league interests you, send your name to the league coordinator to get on the mailing list.  She will update all participants with tee-times on a weekly basis; we cannot guarantee that tee-times will be the same from one week to the next.

For the 2020 golf season (mid-May to September), we are continuing our ongoing and new alliances with the following courses:

Thursday Twilighters:  Don Valley Golf Course, Toronto
Sunday Early Birdies:  Lakeview Golf Course, Mississauga
   Glen Cedars Golf Club, Pickering

We welcome suggestions for other courses to be considered for our weekly opportunities, please email your ideas to the Golf Events Director.

Thursday Twilighters:  Don Valley Golf Club, Toronto

Don Valley GC
Join us for twilight golf on Thursdays at Don Valley Golf Course, at 4200 Yonge Street, just south of the 401. Bev Meech, the League Coordinator, sends out an email a week in advance to see who is available to play.  We book tee times in advance, so sign up is needed by Friday at the latest to play the following Thursday. Your tee time will be confirmed by email.  After 9 holes, we usually reconvene down the street at the Miller Tavern for drinks and snacks.

Holes 11, 12 and 13 are under construction until some time in June, when construction is scheduled to be finished.  Until then, the course is offering a reduced green fee. Pull carts and power carts are available for rent. Please arrive at the Pro Shop at least 15 minutes before your tee time to pay your green fees and get to the first tee.

If you would like to join us, please contact the League Coordinator to get on the mailing list.

Sunday Early Birdies:  Lakeview Golf Course, Mississauga

On Sunday mornings, we play at Lakeview Golf Course, on Dixie south of Lakeshore.  Tee times are generally in the morning, depending on availability.

Maria Szoke, the League Coordinator, books tee times one week in advance on a Sunday morning for play on the FOLLOWING Sunday.  Places may be available after registration cut-off based on availability with the reserved tee times. We need to release unfilled tee times 24 hours in advance.  Tee time confirmations will be sent out to registrants 3 days prior to play.

To get on the mailing list or to secure a spot, please contact the League Coordinator with your name and phone number.

Sunday Early Birdies:  Glen Cedars Golf Club, Pickering

Join us for an early morning round at Glen Cedars Golf Club, on Concession Rd 7 north of Hwy 407. Tee times are generally between 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. depending on course availability.  The green fee is paid in the pro-shop at the course. Glen Cedars offers a loyalty program whereby after approximately 7 rounds your 8th round will be free. For more information about the program, visit the Glen Cedars website. Weather permitting, the first Sunday round in 2020 is scheduled for April 26th.

Astrid Buschke, the League Coordinator, makes reservations by each Sunday morning to play the FOLLOWING Sunday, i.e. a week in advance.  Spots may be available after the registration cut-off based on availability within booked tee-times. Tee time confirmation will be sent out to registrants 3 days prior to play.

To get on the mailing list or to secure a spot, please contact the League Coordinator with your name and phone number.  If you need to cancel a booking, please contact the League Coordinator as soon as possible to allow us time to offer the spot to another player.

2020 Match Play

What is Match Play?

Match Play is about winning holes – many a match is won or lost by just a single putt. It’s impossible to predict the outcome of Match Play since the playing field is equalized using handicaps. Match Play is a fun way to compete since one “blow-up hole” doesn’t mean you’re out of the match!

NEW this year.

Our goal this year is to get as many members as possible to play in our Match Play tournament. This year we will have two flights or brackets, using 100% of your handicaps.  There will be between 8 and 16 players in each bracket. One bracket will be for handicaps of 18 and below and the other for  handicaps above 18. (Please note, these handicap bracket ranges may be adjusted according to the number and handicaps of participants). Since there will be 2 brackets and two winners, there will not be a consolation bracket.

Membership in the Greater Toronto Area chapter and maintenance of a current Handicap Factor.

Rules of Participation

All players must observe the following:

  • arrange, and play, your matches within the allotted time-frames (inability of a player to arrange a game in this time frame, or to play a scheduled match, may result in forfeiture of that player)
  • play at a GAO rated course in the Greater Toronto Area
  • if you are member of a course, you may not suggest that course as this presents an unfair advantage
  • you may not play during premium Monday events
  • please be cognizant of the cost of the course that you propose to your opponent (you can find some good deals on GolfNow, UnderPar certificates, discount books such as Golf Fore All, etc.)
  • play on the weekend since many of our members work (matches can be played during the week if acceptable to both players)
