The USGA will adapt the World Golf Handicap System beginning January 1st, 2020.    There will be many changes to the current handicap system, but here are the key points to know:

Handicap Index - Your handicap index will be calculated on you eight best scores of your 20 most recent rounds(previously ten best scores).    Your handicap index will most likely come down a little, but so will everyone else's.   Your golf handicap is meant to be a measure of your potential (better rounds) and the USGA estimates that players will play to or beat their handicap about 20% of the time with the new formula.

Maximum Score per Hole for Posting - The previous Equitable Stroke Control table is now gone, and replaced with a simple formula.   With the new handicap system,  Net Double Bogey will be the highest score golfers can take for posting purposes.

Daily Handicap Revisions - Your golf handicap will now be revised every day instead of twice a month.     With the new system, it is very important that golfers post their scores on the same day the round is played.

Handicap Safeguards - The new handicap system factors in a players low handicap index of the previous 12 months.   Once a players index rises three shots above that low, further upward movement will be slowed and eventually capped at 5 strokes.   There will be no limit to downward movement.
