  • Beautiful day for the Solheim Cup at Grand View!

Nearly 40 golfers participated in a Chapter favorite - the Solheim Cup format event - which was held at the quirky and challenging Grand View Golf Club in Braddock, PA on Saturday, October 4th. Stunning views of the surrounding area overlooking Kennywood Park, the Monongahela River and US Steel facilities offset frustrations with blind shots, disappearing balls and elevation changes. Local course knowledge was very valuable here (thanks Cheryl H.)!!

Members and guests enjoyed scoring 6 holes of best ball, 6 holes of alternate shot (AKA "sorry, partner"), and 6 holes of scramble. Prizes were awarded for 1st through 4th place, with Cristy McCloskey and Becki Matscherz taking the top prize with a score of 75! A delicious buffet lunch and drinks followed the on-course action.

In our spirit of community impact and giving, we also collected over 20 bags of clothing and accessories for Dress For Success. We will be meeting with the local representatives to complete our donation soon.

  • A Heartfelt thank you to our Golf Course/Club Partnerships

We are sending a big thank you to all the golf courses that have welcomed our chapter and supported us over the past year.  Your beautifully maintained course, helpful and courteous staff and generosity have helped make every outing and league a success.

Because of this partnership and outings, it allows us to bring our members together to enjoy this game we all love so much.

We look forward to many more seasons of collaboration and memorable rounds of golf.

Thank you again for being such as important part of our chapter’s success.

  • Fun at Kneiss' Mini-Golf!

A small but lively group played the "hard" course at Kneiss Mini-Golf on Wednesday 8/27. The hard course is the one with moving parts, such as the rotating obstacles and ferris-style wheel. Lisa Schawalder took first place, Cheryl Needham was second, one stroke behind. After spending time in the "rough", Cheryl rallied with 2 aces in a row!

Refreshments followed at Hal's Bar and Grille.

  • Ohio Stay and Play weekend!

What a wonderful time spent at the Ohio Valley Invitational hosted by the Cleveland & Canton Chapters. 60 golfers participated in a shamble format at Valley View Golf Course in Galion, Ohio. Fun course, beautiful weather, good food and prizes, too!

We stayed at the Best Western in Wooster (which does not rhyme with rooster) as it was ideally located between the 2 courses we played.

On our way home we spent the day at Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, Ohio. LPGA Legend and World Golf Hall of Famer Renee Powell greeted us warmly and welcomed us to the course her father built in the 1940s. Renee was the second Black player on the LPGA Tour. Bill Powell returned from WW2 and had nowhere to play golf due to racial discrimination, so he built his own place, putting the "fair" in fairway.

Look for this weekend event to appear on next year's calendar too!

  • LPGA Amateurs Championship
Congratulations to Laura Macek for placing 3rd Low Net in the 3rd Flight.

  • Golf Relay - A Great Day!
We had a great time playing in the chapter golf relay.  Nice buffet and door prizes afterwards.

  • Member/Guest A Great Success
7 groups enjoyed Karen Bennett's putting clinic, 18 holes of golf, a snack at the turn, Italian lunch buffet and 50/50 and basket drawings at Pittsburgh National Golf Club today.  We collected a tableful of non-perishable food and toiletry items for the St. Winifred's Food Pantry (part of the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank) also. Thanks to all for the generous donations and fun day.

  • First Tee Partnership A Huge Success!

What a great day we had partnering with the First Tee of Pittsburgh.  Over 90 people participated in the event, including 20-chapter members.  More than $600 was donated in addition to loads of donations including balls, bags, shoes, clothes and various golf items.     Participants enjoyed a lunch afterwards and many door prizes were available.
