The anticipation is over; the Mystery Golf Event is no longer a mystery.  There were 17 ladies that took a leap of faith to play at a course of unknown origin.  After meeting at Cranberry Mall, 2 vans took off to a destination known only to the drivers.  They were greeted warmly at Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, OH.  The course was built by the father of LPGA Legend and Head Professional Renee' Powell, who was the second Black player on the LPGA tour.  Despite the rain it was a very fun day!  

This past weekend, July 10-11, several of our members participated in the Open Championship in Myrtle Beach.  Judy Mazzitelli claimed First Place Low Gross in her flight!!  Congratulations to Judy and all who participated!

Earlier this year the Pittsburgh chapter submitted an application for the Women On Par Grant which is awarded to chapters who propose programming for women who are not members to get "on par" with the benefits of golf.  We were awarded $2000.00 to help start a program to encourage young professionals to join and become active within the Pittsburgh chapter.  Less than 6% of our members are under the age of 35.  Our goal is to plan a 5-session series to cover etiquette/basic rules, putting, short game and full swing.  We would like to help educate on the game of golf and the benefits of the LPGA Amateurs specifically.

On June 24 Golf Galaxy in Robinson was host to the league for a Social event for the league.  There were light refreshments, putting and closest to the pin contests, short lessons and gift drawings.  In addition to having access to the equipment and professionals there were shopping discounts granted to everyone for the day.  It was a great opportunity to mingle with friends and stock up on gear.

The Pittsburgh Chapter celebrated its 32nd Anniversary on June 9th.  To celebrate several members, new and established, got together to celebrate at the Finch on the South Side the next day (non-league night).  The weather was beautiful as was the view, but the people made it the best.   

Yesterday we had the privilege of pairing with the ladies from the First Tee for a round of golf.  The younger girls played 3 holes while some of the older (middle school age) played a full 9 holes at the Bob O’Connor golf course.  Each foursome consisted of students from First Tee and our LPGA amateurs members.  For some of the girls this was the first time playing 9 holes.  A lite lunch was served after.  It is safe to say a good time was had by all!   I think everyone learned something. 

We as members are the best supporters and promoters of the LPGA Amateurs.  Now is the time to invite friends, family, colleagues, neighbors etc. to join in the fun of being an LPGA amateur member.  Ask a new recruit to include your name during the joining process and you can qualify for an incentive:

On Saturday 11/8/2025 members enjoyed a social at 9Yards Golf Lounge in Washington, PA.  Members were able to "play" Pebble Beach, participate in the closest to the pin and enjoy food and beverages as well.  Volunteers, Captains and Board members were recognized for their contributions on behalf of the Chapter.  There were some great basket drawings, 50/50 and a pair of Penguins tickets too.

Congrats to Becki Matscherz who won closest to the pin and Anastasiya who won the pair of Penguin tickets!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our recent election. 

Nearly 40 golfers participated in a Chapter favorite - the Solheim Cup format event - which was held at the quirky and challenging Grand View Golf Club in Braddock, PA on Saturday, October 4th. Stunning views of the surrounding area overlooking Kennywood Park, the Monongahela River and US Steel facilities offset frustrations with blind shots, disappearing balls and elevation changes. Local course knowledge was very valuable here (thanks Cheryl H.)!!

Members and guests enjoyed scoring 6 holes of best ball, 6 holes of alternate shot (AKA "sorry, partner"), and 6 holes of scramble. Prizes were awarded for 1st through 4th place, with Cristy McCloskey and Becki Matscherz taking the top prize with a score of 75! A delicious buffet lunch and drinks followed the on-course action.

In our spirit of community impact and giving, we also collected over 20 bags of clothing and accessories for Dress For Success. We will be meeting with the local representatives to complete our donation soon.
