Lone Star Cup will be held in Albuquerque, NM at the Santa Ana Golf Club the weekend of May 28-30. This team event is similar to the Solheim Cup. Chapters from Albuquerque, Baton Rouge, Ft. Worth, Dallas, Denton, Denver, Houston, and San Antonio will participate. We encourage ladies with higher handicaps to try out as your extra strokes often give an advantage over lower handicap players. 

Tryouts will begin in February and practice will start at the end of April.

It was wonderful seeing nearly 40 ladies at Popstroke for our year end party. Even though the evening was a bit chilly, you kept it fun, festive, and full of great energy. The food was spectacular and the venue has something for everyone from 2 mini-golf courses to beach volleyball and pickleball courts, a firepit and a soccer field. We know some of you came a long way to spend time with us and it was wonderful to see you. And to those who couldn’t make it—we missed you and hope to see you at the next event!

What a spooktacular day on the course! Our “Halloween on the Green” Trick-or-Treat Golf Event brought together 36 amazing players across 9 exceptionally dressed teams, and wow — you all impressed! From creative costumes to contagious laughter, the spirit of fun was alive and well.

We’re thrilled to hear the format was a crowd favorite, even if Hole 12 — “Bunker Buster” — haunted us all. It was wonderful seeing new members join in and reconnecting with some of our long-missed friends.

We had an amazing time at our annual Stay and Play weekend at Horseshoe Bay Resort. We were the first groups off the tee both mornings which gave us plenty of time to enjoy homemade tarts by the pools in the afternoon. There's nothing like feeling you are the only people on a beautiful, lush golf course! We had a fabulous sunset meal in town the first evening and a great boat tour of the lake on the second evening. There was casual time spent hanging out in the room snacking on a fabulous buffet and playing a hilarious game of Pictionary afterwards. Best quote of the trip "I'm looking at the card and I still don't know what you're drawing" 🤣

A handful of enthusiastic ladies gathered at Jimmy Clay on June 3^rd for the Rules Clinic Part 2. Led by Steve Hammond, the hands-on session covered common relief scenarios such as cart paths, ground under repair, trees, red and yellow hazards, and more. Steve provided an overview and demonstration of the rules and then members got practice taking relief on their own. The evening wrapped up with a lively Q&A session full of great questions and discussion. Members who did not attend Part 1 received a copy of a rules card book for their bags. 

Lone Star Cup, 2025 was held at Rockwood Golf Club hosted by the Forth Worth chapter.  This year the Albuquerque, New Mexico Chapter returned after a two year absence to play.  

We had some new team members who had never played the Lone Star Cup before, and they got to experience what it is like playing and competing in  match play. Shout out to Liz Lee, Terri Thomas and Co-captain Micaela Uriegas. 

Thank you to our alternate Julia Alaniz-Karnezis from Houston who had to play for us on the second day as Laurie Ben had some hip pain after the first day and didn't feel she could continue. Julia knocked it out of the park for us, winning her singles match.

This was my fourth year playing for the Austin LPGA Amateurs chapter and I had a lovely experience playing against all kinds of different people. Even though we didn’t win we had fun and enjoyed the game of golf at a competitive level.  It is a great way to build your circle of friends with lovely friendly golfers.

The winner this year was Houston; 2^nd place was Forth Worth and 3^rd place was Baton Rouge.  Congratulations to the top 3 teams and see you all in New Mexico (hopefully) in 2026.

On Sunday June 1st 20 ladies came down to 1972 Women's Sports Pub to watch the final round of the US Women's Open. Also on TV that day was the Women's College World Series semi-final baseball game between Oklahoma and Texas Tech, which would determine who UT played in the Finals.

With drink specials and delicious food, the atmosphere in the pub was full of energy and laughter as we celebrated the highs and mourned the lows of the live sports events.

We had fantastic prize giveaways, the highlight being a brand new travel golf bag donated by Sita (hooray for Tammy Pirtle)! And of course we chose the 2 winners of the TGA certificate to play at Horseshoe Bay in July. Congratulations to Theresa Moody and Cindy Story!

We had a fantastic time at our kickoff party at Top Golf. Thirty ladies gathered to hear about our plans for the upcoming year, some changes that are happening within the chapter, and meet our new leadership team. After enjoying some mimosas and delicious food, we split up into teams of 6 for a scramble competition and a chance to meet some new ladies. Congratulations to the winning team of Marcia Floyd, Valerie Lesak, Holly Mayfield, Laura Hill, Lili Taufa and Beth Gaff.  You ladies crushed IT! We also had a "Beat the Pro" mini-competition and four ladies (Sally Bowman, Lili Taufa, Beth Gaff and Kristin Hazard) were able to rack up more points than the pro did. And we raised over $1,500 for the chapter from our silent auction! Thank you to all the folks who donated prizes and bid on the many different items! And a huge shout-out to Deonna Million and Terri Thomas for putting this all together for us.

Two teams from our chapter competed in the National Virtual Scramble at Forest Creek on March 5. Only one other chapter had more than one team competing so way to go ladies!  And even better news was that the Burnt Orange Birdies consisting of Deonna Million, Lili Taufa, Terri Thomas and Sita Cilfone won low gross out of 15 teams total! Our other Austin team, the Birdie Bandits led by Kristin Hazard with Joanie Gibbs, Micaela Uriegas and Laurie Ben came in a respectable tied for 4th place in low gross. We had a ton of fun at our final gathering for 2024. Our member awards chosen by you were handed out, the new board was introduced, we enjoyed some cocktails and great food, and then we tackled the very creative indoor mini-golf challenge. 

After the disappointing cancelation of last year's stay and play weekend, we were anxious to get away this year and explore a new golf resort up near Dallas. White Bluff Resort at Lake Whitney was a beautiful setting for some fun golf and even more fun parties after the sun went down! Deonna, Sita, Lara and their "helpers" went all out with food, drinks, games, and decorations to make this a really enjoyable weekend. The bar has been set for the next one!

Thank you to Terri Hoffman for hosting this wonderful afternoon of mini-golf and giving us the opportunity to learn some basics about financial planning. 

We had 32 people for our second funplay event at Plum Creek in May. Congrats to the winning teams of Lili Taufa, Tere Aguilar, Lisa Houston and Haeyoung Baker (1st place with 62) and Linda Sackett, Melissa Smith, Tina McCurdy and Tammie Trichell (2nd place with 63). Sally Bowman won Closest to the Pin. The randomly drawn team Tonia Norman, Elizabeth Lee and Connie Hill-Slupsky won gift cards to the Pro Shop. Wendy Malloch won the putting contest.

Despite the cool weather we had a great time at Forest Creek Golf Course for our first fun play event of the season. It was nice to see some longtime members such as Sandy Fitzpatrick back out on the course and a warm welcome to our new members Kelly Thorstad, Brenda Murphy, and Maddi Edds. Congrats to our winners: Samantha and Beth (Low Gross), Sita and Deonna (2nd lowest Net), Teresita (CTP) and Theresa (LD).
