On behalf of all the High Desert Wedge Warriors, we would like to thank you for your support in sending our rookie team to Horseshoe Bay, Texas. It was an amazing experience although we learned that you must pack for all types of weather or you will be buying jackets and $30 beanies because Texas isn't always warm or dry. We met competitors from across the country and Canada. We thought of Texas as flat, but we were in hill country, and we hit up hill, downhill, across water and gullies, your ball sometimes landed in the trees, but the tricky was the deep sand traps or the brick walls around the water - who would think that your ball would lodge itself in a corner of the step of a rock wall surrounding a pond. The practice rounds gave us a look at the courses that where much more challenging than we were used to.
On the days of competition, some of us were in the 8 am and others in the 2 pm shotgun. Those not playing, watched the leader board, hole by hole of the players. Win, lose or tie the hole. On the final day in the afternoon, we were jumping for joy as we were #1 on the leaderboard - Woohoo, it was short lived as others finished their matches and our last 2 players battled all 18 holes until they finally succumbed by a lucky shot by their opponents. Your rookie team is very proud to say we took 13 out of 50 teams. A heartfelt thank you for your encouragement and financial support.

The chapters of First Tee programs prepare young people to prepare for success in high school, college, and adult life with our Nine Core Values. Education programs build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. The First Tee offers college scholarship programs, community service projects, and nationwide participant opportunities such as The Pure Insurance First Tee Open, Life Skills, and Leadership Academy.
Their core programs have influenced more than 2,000 youth at eight area golf courses and thousands more in over 25 schools across Washoe, Carson, Lyon, Placer and Douglas counties in 2020. Community outreach activities are in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and other youth organizations.
