Learn More about Our Competitive Golf Events Locally, Regionally, and Nationally.

Creating a fresh set of golf goals could include participating in golf competitions. It doesn’t matter if you are a low or high handicap player; golf competition is for anyone who wants to put their skills to the test with a little bit of added pressure (some may say a lot).

Let’s dispel the notion that golf competition is only for really “good players” – nothing could be farther from the truth! If you might enjoy seeing how your ability may stack up to fellow avid golfers, keep a lookout for our events and sign up!

While more preparation may be involved, such as familiarizing yourself with official golf rules & etiquette, more practice (yes, practice!), and even familiarizing yourself with the tournament courses, the reward for pushing yourself outside your golf comfort zone can be worthwhile and rewarding.

Within the LPGA Amateur Golf Association, there are three types of competitions: Local - San Diego Chapter, Regional and National Competitions.

San Diego Chapter Competitions

  • Players Cup: This is a season-long, stroke-play (no match-play, scrambles, or other odd formats) competition for our members modeled after the FedEx Cup. Players earn points based on how they finish in qualifying golf events. In 2022, the Players Cup will have two divisions, net and gross. For complete details on the Players Cup and rules Click Here.

  • Chapter Championship: This is an individual stroke play competition over two days. Each year, we crown a Low Gross & Low Net Chapter Champion. Different flights are set up based on the number of players in the field and their handicap indexes. Date and location for 2022, TBD.

  • Partner Eclectic: This is a 2-day partner event played on two consecutive weekends, typically Sunday. Here’s how it works: Record each player’s score on the 1st day and select the better score. On the 2nd day, you will record your score ONLY for each hole if it’s better than the 1st day. Lots of fun and challenging! This event will take at St. Marks Golf Club, date TBD.

  • Devilish Duel 666: This is a partner competition. The format is six holes of scramble, six holes of best ball, and six holes of alternate shot. This event will take place on October 30, 2022, at Mt. Woodson.

  • Most Improved Player: Each year, we award active members who improve their handicap index the most from the beginning of the year to the end of our LPGA Amateur event season. We award an Overall Most Improved and the Most Improved Player from each Flight. If you are an active member as of January throughout the season, you qualify and do not need to register. One last thing, please do not let the words “team” or “partner” dissuade you – We can always assist you in finding a team or a partner.

Regional Competitions

California Cup: This is a team match-play competition between the California chapters. A 12-player team will represent San Diego in this two-day event. A local qualification takes place to earn one of the spots to represent San Diego. The Cal Cup will take place on November 11-13, 2022, at Rancho Bernardo Inn.

Play4 Pink: This is a joint event partnering with the Orange County chapter, which takes place in early October. It is a one-day competition featuring different categories: 2-partner best ball (Male/Female, Female/Female) or 4-person team scramble.  Dates have not been determined for 2022. This event has been taking place at Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad.
