On February 13th, our very own LeahAnn Duffield attended the local Amateur Long Drive Canada competition held at FarAway Greens Indoor Golf in Burlington, and won the Women's 45+ Division, with a drive of 212 yards. Congrats LeahAnn!
LeahAnn was in good company with some fellow LPGA Amateurs members,
Fareen Samji, seen here giving out the prizes, is the Golf Instructor at FarAway Greens, as well, the Golf Teaching Pro at Within Range Golf Centre in Burlington.
Some members all joined the Faraway Greens Indoor Fall Golf Women's League without knowing whom else had signed up! It's good to have some LPGA Amateurs representation, but with a maximum of 20 people per, the league is full. For the winter league starting in January, priority will be given to those who played in the fall league, but contact Gil at Faraway Greens to see if there is space in the next winter league.
Having really fast ball speed helps with distance! And our Leah-Ann has it in spades!
A really nasty bit of rough at Pebble Beach.
Congrats to 3 of our Canadian Chapters ending up in the top Five of all chapters with the most growth in 2021. Well done LPGA Amateurs Durham for a 100% increase in one season - way to grow a chapter! We Hamburgirls came in 4th with an increase from 20 members in 2020 to 45 in 2021, and the brand new chapter on Vancouver Island took 5th place. Well done Canadian chapters!
At our 2021 Chapter Championship, Leah-Ann took her drive off the first tee - a testament to the speed of her drives as it lodged in the tree! A ruling was made and for one stroke, Leah-Ann took a drop at the bottom of the tree.
On Sept 27th, the Hamburgirls had their season closer at Flamborough Hills. We played a 9 hole scramble, with a Return the Ball challenge, and then finished off the evening with dinner and socializing on the patio. The swag bags this year included a ball stencil and marker, lip balm, martini tees and lip balm - all welcome items for our golfers. Though this was the season closer, it was by no means the end of our golf for this season.
A shout out to all our participants in LPGA Amateurs - GTA's Step Aside Scramble at Woodington Lakes on September 19th
Here we have First Place champions with a score of 56 - Hidden Lake Chicks with Stix. From left to right: Jae Rang (GTA), Shelley Speal (HB/GTA), Crystal Clark (GTA) and Lise Campeau (GTA). Congrats ladies!
Also competing was Team Hamburgirls - Jeannine Woodland, Angeline Lundquist, Deb Kucheran and Glenna Scarlet. We had a great day with not a cloud in the sky, a beautiful, somewhat sprawling, course and great fun.
Congrats to all our participants in the LPGA Amateurs Ontario Championship and Fun Division Tournament, Sept 12 at Richmond Hill Golf Club
Championship Division - Michelle Hoad, Leah-Ann Duffield, Natalie Laforet, Janet Canavan, Shelley Speal, Angie Lundquist and Donna Hood
Special Congrats to Natalie Laforet who won 3rd Low Gross in the Third Flight, and to Donna Hood who won 1st Low Gross in the Fourth Flight.
Fun Division - Nancy Kingston, Jeannine Woodland, Jenn Simpson and Deb Kucheran. In the Fun Division, we played Bingo Golf; the Tombstone game didn’t work for us as we were playing scramble; Nancy was literally “this close” to winning Closest to the Line; and no luck on Closest to the Pin or Longest Putt. But all in all, a whole lot of laughs.
The Events Committee thanks Jenn Simpson for your last minute offer of help, coming out early in the day to help with Registration - which allowed the Event Organizer to be free to roam around ensuring everything else was in order. Much appreciated by the committee.
Thank you to Kandy Golf and Transaxle Group of Companies for the swag bag of balls and cap!
