  • Biggest Loser Results Are In!

    We have our winners!

Our chapter president, Stefanie Thornton has emerged as our Biggest Loser for Group 1 with an impressive improvement factor of 1.1254 and a reduction in handicap index of 3.8.

LaTarisha Fountain is our Biggest Loser for Group 2 with an unbelievable improvement factor of 1.521 and a reduction in handicap index of 16.1!!!!  Impressive doesn't even begin to describe it.  La is also currently the leader in the LPGA Amateurs National Biggest Loser competition.  Outstanding achievement!!!

Carole Rawding captured 2nd place in Group 1 and Patty Elwood came out of nowhere to capture 3rd place. For Group 2, Julie Frolish is our 2nd place winner and Young Neumann captured 3rd place.  Our most honest golfers were Diane Morris for Group 1 and Deborah Smith for Group 2.

Our first place winners each received a $150 gift card; second place winners received a $75 gift card and third place winners received a $25 gift card. Our most honest golfers in each group received a $15 gift card. We have a small amount left over from our prize pool that will be donated to Play for Pink.

Congratulations to all of our winners and to everyone that successfully lowered their handicap this season.  For those of you whose handicap index inexplicably rose this season -- we hope you still had fun and enjoyed the golf. That, after all, is the most important thing!

Thank you to Sheila McDonough for organizing and managing this fun event! We hope everyone enjoyed the competition and will return refreshed next year and ready to start again!

  • The Chapter Championship Has Returned!

We were thrilled to welcome back the Chapter Championship to our Northern NJ Members this year! Held on July 28th at Farmstead Golf and Country Club, we had a fantastic turnout. To accommodate the preferences of all golfers we had two separate formats, Stroke Play and Scramble.

This was a great opportunity for those new to competition to “dip their toe” into the competitive side of things, but it was also friendly and fun! A good time was had by all and based on the feedback we received we hope to continue this event in the future. Congratulations to our winners listed below!

    • Overall Low Gross: Jan Tomasiewicz; Overall Low Net: Marge Zietchick
    • 1st Flight Low Gross: Robyn Lindsay; Low Net: Grace Tshanakas
    • 2nd Flight Low Gross: Heather Brocious; Low Net: Michelle Lynch
    • 3rd Flight Low Gross: Pat Bringewatt; Low Net: Carol Owens

  • Two Fun June Events!

Twenty-four golfers helped to celebrate this year's Women's Golf Day on Tuesday, June 4th at Farmstead. The afternoon began with a Q&A Clinic, led by PGA Professional Scott Pruden, followed by a fun 9 holes of golf. Everyone had a chance to mingle on the patio after the event, where prizes for closest to the pin and closest to the line were awarded.

Later that week, a group of NNJ Chapter members took to the highway to participate in the 2nd annual Lehigh Valley Stroke Play invitational. Congrats to winners Madlyn Granieri, Jean Parmelli ,and Jan Tomasiewicz for taking home various awards!

Thank you to Farmstead and the Lehigh Valley Chapter for hosting these events. We look forward to our Chapter's continued participation again next year!

  • Northern NJ Chapter has Great Showing at the 2024 Scramble Open!

Five teams from our NNJ Chapter traveled to Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg VA, to participate in the LPGA 2024 Scramble Open.  Even the soggy course conditions could not stop the amazing "No Mercy From Jersey" foursome from bringing home the Fourth Flight Low Gross prize!! Congrats to winners Carol Grennan, Linda Sisson, Lisette Ditters and Julie Frolish!

Also competing on other teams, and having just as much fun were NNJ Chapter Members Fern Chan, Madlyn Granieri, Fran Lapinski and MJ Horowitz of the "Handi Cappers", Stephanie Terrone, Janet Bordino, Cathy Brennan & Mary LeBlanc representing "Pure Jersey"; Jean Parmelli & Loretta Lenihan of "Par-Tee of Fore", and Jan Tomasiewicz playing with the "Cardshark Scramblers".

    Great job ladies!!

  • A Great Day for the Irish and a Great Day for the Northern NJ Chapter!!

What a terrific day we had at the Players Club in Paramus to kick off our 2024 season. It was great to see old friends, meet new members and spend the afternoon at our Tee-Off, having a great time together.

There was plenty of food, drink, shopping and games to keep everyone busy throughout the afternoon. PGA professional Scott Pruden and PGA/LPGA Professional Juliet Little were on hand and provided pointers and golf tips throughout the day.

Our shopping enthusiasts had plenty of items to choose from. Christina Thompson of Golf4Her was on hand to showcase their new arrivals, member Lorraine Hara of Essentially Raine brought a selection of stylish fashion accessories and PGA Sales Rep Dave Bosworth joined us with his fabulous golf apparel.

Congratulations to La Tarisha Fountain and Julie Frolish, the winners of our closest to the pin and longest drive contests.

Thank you to Scott, Julie and Christina for their generous donations for our raffle prizes, and to Meredith Kaim for providing all of our attendees with a giveaway sunscreen and reminding us of the importance of protecting our skin while on the course.

Finally, thanks to our event planning committee and today's volunteers. We appreciate everyone's efforts and dedication to our Chapter! Click Here to view additional pictures from the event.

  • Celebrating the Season at the USGA Museum

It was an afternoon full of fun, festivities and cheer at our holiday event! Attendees had a fantastic time at this year's party, held at the United States Golf Association Museum and Library. The home to the world's premier collection of golf artifacts and memorabilia was the backdrop for an amazing day, as we got to see all of the fantastic exhibits and displays, while catching up with fellow chapter members to celebrate the season.

There was plenty of food and drink to keep our spirits up, and attendees were able to test their skills on The Pynes Putting Course, inspired by the world-renowned Himalayas Putting Green at St Andrews Links in Scotland, using replica antique clubs and balls from the late 19th and early 20th centuries!   CLICK HERE to see pictures from the event!

  • NNJ Chapter Raises Awareness while Playing Fore Pink!

After numerous postponements due to rain, Mother Nature finally cooperated! We held our Play Fore Pink Season Closer on Saturday, November 11 at Farmstead Golf and Country Club. Thanks to everyone’s efforts and generosity, our chapter raised close to $4000 for this worthy cause!

Play for P.I.N.K. was started after a member of Alpine Country Club was diagnosed with Breast Cancer? Her friends ran a golf tournament to raise money for research in the hope of helping find a cure. From this one little club in New Jersey PFP began to grow by word of mouth to surrounding clubs in the area. It was then that they partnered with the "Evelyn Lauder" Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

They donate 100% of the money raised to BCRF and have grown to become BCRF's largest donator, raising over Thirty Million dollars one small event at a time! They are now a Nationwide Organization with no advertising, simply by word of mouth!

  • Thank You 2023 Volunteers!
The threat of showers turned into a beautiful day of golf at Farmstead Golf & CC this past Saturday. Twenty-four of our volunteers began arriving early that morning for a fun 18 holes of golf, followed up by hors d'oeuvres, snacks and beverages on the patio. We appreciate the time and effort provided throughout the year by those willing to help out. We could not be successful without you! Click here to see pictures from the event.

  • LPGA Amateurs Northern New Jersey Chapters supports Pink Lightning Dragon Boat Team.

Pink Lightning is a dragonboat team comprised of cancer survivors and supporters. Its mission is to providing opportunities for women to share in new experiences leading to their personal healing and a feeling of empowerment.

Ten members of the Northern New Jersey Chapter attended Pink Lightnings Second Annual Golf Outing on 7/13, in support of dragonboat paddlers and fellow chapter members Phylis Kaplan and Fran Lapinski.

Like the dragonboat team, the outing encourages survivors and supporters to try something new. The foursomes were comprised of experienced and new golfers. Attendees provided clubs for new golfers, and motivation, mulligans and miracle putts were available to all. Laughter, burgers, beverages and prizes concluded the day.

  • The Biggest Loser - LPGA Amateur Style! Read how participating in this year's competition motivated NNJ Member Kim Maycott
This year's Biggest Loser competition has come to a close. The competition began on June 10 and participants were grouped into four divisions, based on their starting handicap index:

    • Division I: 6.5 to 21.7
    • Division II: 22.0 to 26.1
    • Division III: 26.2 to 32.0
    • Division IV: 32.1 to 54.0

Congratulations to Kim Maycott who placed 4th in her division and 11th overall.  According to Kim the best part was that the competition motivated her to play more this year and enabled her to lower her handicap by over 7 strokes!

If you aren't in the habit of keeping a handicap and posting your scores, you might want to consider it for next year.

  • Northern NJ/Westchester Interchapter Event on Saturday, August 20 at Crystal Springs
It was a hot and steamy day on a crazy Robert von Hagge designed golf course (the Crystal Springs Golf Club course at the Crystal Springs Resort) where the 5 players from Westchester defeated the 6 players from Northern New Jersey in a friendly match play competition. Prentiss Shaw won closet to the pin (3 feet) on the (picturesque) par three 11th hole and Robyn Lindsay took home the prize for straightest drive. Prizes were awarded in the Willow Room at the clubhouse at the Grand Cascades Lodge and 8 of the 11 players proceeded to the Irish Cottage Inn for sustenance and libations. A good day overall.  Thanks to those who attended the Saturday, August 20th event.
