The Chapter held its first Annual Meeting via zoom on April 26th, 2022. Thirty-one members attended and you can find the recording of the session here: 2022 Annual Meeting Zoom Video
The Northern NJ Chapter’s "Tee Off to the Green" was everything we could have hoped for and more! Friendly chatter filled the air as we kicked off our 2022 season at Farmstead Golf and Country Club, where 18-holes of golf was followed up by a fun putting contest. The festivities continued inside, where we ate, drank, shopped, and laughed along with old and new friends alike. Congrats to all the prize winners and thank you to everyone that participated, especially the event organizers and volunteers!
LPGA Amateurs NNJ Chapter members gathered Wednesday, Dec 1 for our annual holiday party, held this year at Portobello Banquets in Oakland, NJ.
After getting settled in with drinks and passed hors d'oeuvres, the event kicked off with new president Stefanie Thornton welcoming all attendees. A Rose Ceremony followed, thanking all the departing board members for their service and accomplishments. Roses were also presented to the current board and chairs, as well as to our league coordinators. Introductions to our newly elected board followed. It was clear our chapter has been blessed with an amazing group of volunteers!
The night continued with a delicious buffet dinner, music, dancing and prizes. The proceeds from our 50/50 will be presented to JBWS.
What a great way to wind up the golf season, kick off the holiday season and celebrate wonderful friendships within our chapter! Happy Holidays to all! See you in 2022!
A DAY OF GOLF TO CELEBRATE MARILY "MARIE" SARMIENTO
Thank you to everyone who participated in the charity scramble tournament at Lake Isle Country Club on August 30, to honor the life of our friend and fellow golfer, Marily "Marie" Sarmiento. We know Marie was looking down on all of us, sending us a day full of smiles and sunshine.
Many thanks to all those who assisted Andria in making this outing a wonderful event. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to The First Tee in Marie's memory.
We miss you Marie!
Karyn was playing her regular weekly Northern New Jersey LPGA Amateur Wednesday league run by Phyllis Kaplan and Diana Galer at Pinch Brook Golf Course in Florham Park, NJ on July 21st.
She was playing with Mary Cobb and Jane Kurek . The Hole in One was on the 9th hole and was about 105 yards over some water. She used a 4 rescue and did see the ball bounce on the green , but when they got to the green the ball was nowhere in sight. Jane and Karyn looked everywhere the ball could have rolled while Mary finished her last putt . They were still looking for the ball when Mary reached into the hole to get her ball and there was Karyn’s ball!! Karyn’s ball must have hit the green and rolled in the hole where they, of course , did not look.
It was total unexpected by Karyn so she was surprised and very excited. They celebrated at their weekly pizza dinner. Karyn says “It was great fun with a great group!”
Congratulations to the Cardshark Scramblers and the Strokes of Luck, our amazing representatives from LPGA Amateurs Northern NJ Chapter at the LPGA Amateurs Scramble Open, held on May 28th and 29th in Pinehurst. Both teams competed among the best and had outstanding performances.
Always a strong scramble team, Jane Egan, Mindy Oosten, Annette Owens and Karen Stepsus of the Cardshark Scramblers once again brought their “A” game, finishing 3rd in their fight and 13th overall in the field of 66 teams. Playing in competition for the first time together as a scramble team, the Strokes of Luck foursome of Fern Chan, Susan Nostrame, Janet Solberg and Jan Tomasiewicz also had a terrific showing, as they finished 4th in their flight and 23rd overall!
Fellow chapter member Pat MacIsaac rounded out our representatives from Northern NJ, cheering on our ladies and partaking in golf and fun throughout the trip. In the words of Jane Egan “Eight days in a golfers paradise with great friends was a priceless experience.” We bet it was!!
Despite the chilly weather, a great day of of golf, learning and fun was experienced by attendees of our 2021 Golf School! Mary Beth Kohberger was a fantastic and thorough instructor, covering all aspects of the game, including mental, in the 3 hour lesson. She gave equal attention to all of the participants, joining them on the course for nine holes, spending time with both foursomes and helping them practice what they had learned. Mary Beth has more than 30 years of experience teaching students of all skills levels, and we hope to work with her again at future events. Special thanks to Denise Gill and Fran Lapinski, who organized and coordinated this fantastic event.
